The consistent drop in temperature has created hardships for the destitute and homeless people in the State capital.
Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has installed wood stoves for destitute and homeless at various locations of the State capital this winter.
Such people are being seen gathering around fire lighted by the wood stoves during the night hours. The district administration has placed wood stoves in 15 areas across the district for the destitute and homeless in order to help them withstand the bitterness of the cold. The civic body officials have assured that they would further increase the number of the wood stoves to be thus distributed in case the cold becomes more intense in the coming days.
Jharna Kamthan , additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue), said that aside from providing wood stoves, they have been providing blankets to the needy from each of the tehsils daily.
She further said that fund is no constraint as far as this project is concerned. "For the rural areas like Raipur, Harrawala and Doiwala, we are providing the relief extensively. We are likely to receive more funds which will be used to further expand the reach of the relief measure for destitute people. It would continue throughout the winter season," she added.
