The health services across the State were paralyzed by the strike of Government doctors on Thursday. The Provincial Medical Health Services (PMHS), the association of Government doctors has decided to continue its strike call till the murderers of Dr S K Singh are arrested. Dr Singh was murdered in broad day light at Community Health Centre (CHC) of Jaspur in Udham Singh Nagar district on Wednesday.
On the strike call given by the PMHS, all the services barring post mortem were halted by the agitated doctors on the day. In absence of emergency services the seriously ill patients and accident cases were diverted to the private hospitals causing great problems and anxiety to their relatives. On Wednesday, the PMHS had given a call for Out Patient Department (OPD) boycott only however the anger of the doctors over the audacious murder was so high that they decided to observe a total strike.
A meeting of PMHS was organised at the associated hospital of Doon Medical College (DMC) in morning where the doctors’ unanimously resolved to continue their strike till the murderers of Dr Singh are arrested.
The President of the PMHS, Dr S K Goswami told The Pioneer that officially the association has decided to observe a three day strike call starting from Thursday but the doctors are so agitated that they are adamant to continue strike till the murderers are arrested.
The anger of doctors over the episode is such that they are determined to take their fight for ensuring their security to a logical end now. “I am planning to carry my licensed revolver along with me in the hospital as the government has failed to ensure the security of the doctors,’’ quipped a senior doctor.
Meanwhile the Rajya Karmchari Sanyukt Parishad, the powerful umbrella organization of state government employees has extended its total support to the agitation of doctors. A meeting of the Parishad was held in Dehradun on Thursday in which this decision was taken.
