Govt docs' two-hour work boycott affects State health services

The State health services were affected by the two-hour work boycott of Government doctors on Monday. On demand of the release of Government Order (GO) for across the board implementation of the Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP), the association of the government doctors, Provincial Medical Health Services (PMHS) has given the OPD boycott call.

On Monday patients in all Government hospitals and health centres bore the brunt of the work boycott. large queues of patients were seen outside the OPDs of all the Government hospitals in the morning. The doctors of PMHS deployed in the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) also participated in the work boycott causing problems to the patients. The doctors started their work boycott at 8 am and resumed their duties after 10 am.

The spokesperson of the PMHS, Dr Anand Shukla told The Pioneer that the work boycott call was a complete success on the first day. He said that doctors would continue their agitation till the GO is released. Dr Shukla added that in view of the disaster like situation in the State the doctors are undertaking work boycott of only two hours. He informed that the association is yet to be approached by any of the Government emissary. The DACP means assured increase in the grade pay of the doctors after 4, 9, 13 and 20 years of the service irrespective of whether they get promotions or not.

The State Government implemented DACP last year but restricted it on the new doctors who joined the state  health service in the year 2015 or after. It irked the serving doctors who agitated for across the board implementation of the scheme. On the pressure exerted by the doctors, the state cabinet in its meeting on June 04 decided to implement the scheme for all serving doctors but the all important GO for the same is yet to be issued.
