The Assembly on the first day of the two-day session on Thursday passed a resolution, appealing to the Centre to bestow Bharat Ratna posthumously on the legendary freedom fighter from the State Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali in the absence of opposition. The proposal was mooted by the State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Indira Hridayesh. The State Health Minister SS Negi and MlA Ganesh Godiyal supported the proposal. While lending support to it, CM Harish Rawat said they still were amazed when they thought of the courage the legend had shown for the cause of the nation under fetters of foreign rule. He also said that they had written to the Centre to give them the permission to build a military school in the memory of the legend. He assured that the State Government would provide the land for the purpose.
The House passed another resolution, expressing solidarity with the common men and the farmers grappling with severe cash crunch in the aftermath of the Centre recalling high value currencies. While the resolution supported the Centre’s drive against black money, counterfeit currency and terror funding, it asked for appropriate measures to ease the prevailing cash crisis with the people losing jobs. The minister Navprabhat said that the state kept suffering with the tourists staying away given the cash crisis. Even the traders are suffering a lot with the number of customers dwindling day by day, he said. He also invoked the misery of the wage earners losing jobs because of the lingering crisis to stress the point that some measures were immediately required to be taken to ease things.
