Govt decision fails to pacify agitating unemployed youth

The State Cabinet’s decision to increase the recently advertised posts of primary teachers has failed to placate the Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed youths here.

These youths are now demanding that the State Government should immediately release the recruitment advertisement and complete the process of appointment before March 31.

The State Cabinet on Friday had declared that it would increase the number of posts in the recruitment of primary teachers in the State. The BEd and TET qualified unemployed youths were demanding that the Government should immediately start recruitment process in all the vacant posts of primary teachers as after March 31 they would become ineligible to be recruited as primary teachers in the State. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has allowed the State Government to recruit BEd candidates as primary teachers only till March 31, after this date only Diploma in Elementary education (DElEd) qualified individuals would be eligible to teach in these schools.

On Sunday, the agitating federation of BEd, TET qualified unemployed youths burned the effigy of Cabinet Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani at the education directorate. Speaking on the occasion the state president of the federation Baldev Singh Bhandari charged that the State Government wanted to give backdoor entry to some untrained and unqualified individuals in the primary teacher cadre. The State general secretary of the federation MS Rawat said that Chief Minister’s recent announcement of reviving 5,000 posts of primary teachers was a mere eyewash and the federation would continue their stir till their just demands are met with.
