Govt claim of DMC not joining strike belied: docs abstain from work

Contrary to the declaration of the authorities that the doctors of the Associated Hospital of Doon Medical College (DMC) would not observe strike, all the doctors and faculty members of the hospital were on a complete strike on Thursday.

The PMHS had declared a Statewide strike and since the doctors serving in the DMC hospital are not part of it, the authorities of the hospital thought that the strike call would be ineffective. However all the doctors unanimously backed the call of strike and brought the biggest hospital of the state into a grinding halt on the day. The emergency services of the hospital too were stopped by the agitating doctors and the serious patients were asked to go private hospital by other staff. later the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr K K Tamta deployed some Junior Residents in the emergency as all senior doctors refused to work in wake of the strike call.

All the departments of the hospital were closed due to the strike of doctors. Many patients were infuriated over the authorities of the medical college hospital for allowing the doctors to strike.

“I read in newspapers today that the Doon hospital would be not affected by the strike but I found that doctors are not working here also. It reflects poorly on the administration of the Medical College,’’ said Manish Sharma a resident of Balawala.
