Uttarakhand Governor Krishan Kant Paul led the State in observing the World Environment Day on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion the Governor exhorted the people of the State to plant trees and protect trees, and he also stressed that human life was most secure when the environment was healthy.
After planting a Kapur (camphor) sapling in the Raj Bhawan compound in Nainital to mark the occasion, the Governor urged the citizens to plant and protect trees so that clean air and water could be ensured for the coming generations.
He said, “It is important that the feeling of environmental conservation becomes a part of our daily activities otherwise our society could lose even its environment. Trees are the basis of our life and trees also protect the environment. The best ways of expressing our gratitude to the environment are our traditional practices like Vriksh Pujan. We need to keep such traditions alive as it is due to such practices that we have been conserving our environment for centuries.”
