Non-gazetted police personnel will no longer be left out as far as honour in recognition of their commendable service is concerned. Such policemen will be honoured each month, said Garhwal Range IG/DIG Sanjay Kumar Gunjiyal while presiding over a crime meeting with the district police heads held at Range office on Tuesday. He directed the police officers to submit names of such policemen who have executed their assigned work effectively and exceptionally.

Meanwhile, considering that peaceful completion of three- tier Panchayat election in Haridwar district would be a challenge for the police, he directed the district police officer to deploy police forces to review things at all the polling booths and polling centres which were demarcated as sensitive and ultra- sensitive in the previous elections.

The police officers should know why the administration had tagged these polling booths as sensitive and ultra- sensitive during the previous elections,he said.

“The police official should be vigilant on anti- social elements and if needed, they should be booked under stringent laws,” he said. Regular vehicle checking drives were stressed too to stop miscreants from transporting weapons from one place to another in the district. “Nothing should be left to chance as far as the free and fair rural polls in Haridwar district are concerned,” he said.

While reviewing the crime report, Gunjiyal said that there has been significant rise in crimes like dacoity in Haridwar and Dehradun districts. “We must ensure that such crimes do not recur and, at the same time, we would take steps to have the stolen items returned to their right owners,” he said.

Dwelling on the spurt in loot cases, he said the trend is visible in several districts like Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Dehradun and Haridwar. The police officers were directed to defend the cases strongly in the court wherein the suspected culprits are booked under Gangster Act.The district police officers were also directed to appoint Additional SP or CO as nodal officer for such cases and these officers should submit monthly report to the Range office.

Speaking of the spiraling land dispute cases, Gunjiyal said  such complaints should be  sent promptly before SIT for probe. He also stressed on successful completion of the Winter Char Dham Yatra in the State.

SPs from SDRF, Haridwar, Dehradun, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Tehri and Pauri attended the meeting.
