The three-day Governor’s Cup Golf tournament 2016, which began here on May 27, has concluded on Sunday. Winners of various categories were awarded by the Governor/ chairman of Rajbhawan Golf Club Dr KK Paul at Raj Bhawan, Nainital.
The overall winner of the 14th tournament was Ram Jiwan Kutar and the runner up was Dinesh Panwar. 83 year old Col Sl Shah bagged the prize for the super veteran golfer.(list of winners is attached).
This year, an inter-school tournament had been organised on May 22 for the first time.Sainik school (Ghorakhal) stood first and Balika Vidya Mandir stood second. They won the inter-school Governor’s Cup trophy .In the boys’ category, Vivek Bisht of Bharatiya Shaheed Sainik Vidyalaya and in the girls category Manmeet Kaur of Balika Vidya Mandir were winners and were awarded by the Governor.
Congratulating the winners, Dr Paul said that Raj Bhawan Golf Course was the best golf course at a high altitude in the country. He said he was confident that people who have played golf here will share the wonderful experience with their friends and popularise this gold course as an excellent tourist destination.He said that the presence of 95 year old super senior golfer GS Majithia and 8 year old lakshya Agarwal was inspiring for all. He said that a golfer had a special personality with a strong will power, discipline and human virtues.
Dr Paul stressed that efforts were being made to make this tournament more attractive and comfortable to boost tourism and culture of the state. Efforts were also being made to attract children to this game so that when they row up they can play at the national and international levels. Thus the inter-school tournament has been started.
The Governor gave the credit for the event’s success to the olf captain, Golf club secretary and their team, Raj Bhawan officials, staff and all the sponsors, and mediapersons and thanked them for their cooperation. Kumaon Commissioner was honoured on the occasion for his special support to the event.The programme was conducted by Golf captain Col (retd) Harish Shah. Dr YS Rawat, ADC to the Governor and golf club secretary, also thanked the participants, officials of the olf club, sponsors and mediapersons.the main sponsors this year are ONGC, Uttarakhand tourism Development Board, SIDCUl, sports department, Trident Group and SBI.
Other dignitaries including Secretary to the Governor Arun Dhaundiyal, Kumaon Commissioner AS Nyal, DI PS Sailal, DM Nainital, SSP Sweety Agarwal , golfers ,eminent people and students were present there.
