Give emphasis to community policing to control crimes: Ganapathy

Published on:

The District police officers have been directed to lay emphasis on community policing to control crimes in their jurisdictional areas, said State DGP MA Ganapathy on Wednesday. Ganapathy asked the police officers to get in touch with local people, the  members  of  the unions related to the autos/vikrams/buses plying,  employees of private industries, roadside vendors, local businessmen, shopkeepers and others to collect information. Side by side, patrolling should intensify, he stressed.  “The objective is to have a direct communication with people in order that we can provide best type of policing to the people. Mere conforming to conventional policing would not do with things turning more complicated,” the State’s top cop said.

He asked the officers above the rank of circle officers to reach police stations, police posts, police lines and conduct inspection. These places must have the basic facilities like drinking water, proper sanitation and the like. Circle officers and SPs must take care of these things, he said, adding that they should interact with the policemen and seek to gauge their concerns, he said. “Improving things for their colleagues should be the senior cops’ watchword,” he added.
