'Give adequate staff to SDSUU before shifting HNB colleges'

Published on:

The State Government should ensure that adequate staff should be provided to the Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University (SDSUU) before shifting the colleges presently affiliated to the HNB Garhwal Central University to it, said the president of the Association of Self Financed institutes of Uttarakhand, Sunil Agarwal while addressing newsmen here on Sunday. He said that the plans are afoot to de-affiliate more than 126 colleges from the HNB Garhwal Central University and get them attached to SDUU.

“We have no problem on the proposed move but the SDSUU is short of staff and the Vice Chancellor of the University has himself raised the issue on several occasions.

We want that the process of shifting the colleges to SDSUU should start only when the university has adequate staff,’’ he said. Agarwal was also critical of the process of granting affiliation to the colleges by the state universities.

He claimed that in many cases the file of affiliation gets stuck up in the bureaucracy for more than three years even after necessary clearance by the expert team of the university.

Agarwal said that the process should be time bound so that the college concerned is not harassed. He charged the HNB Garhwal Central University for not indecisiveness on many issues like sanctioning new courses and administrative lackadaisicalness.

The new courses are needed to be introduced from time to time to for inculcating new dimensions and innovations but the smugness of university on such an important issue is hard to understand, he said.

The President of the association also questioned the propriety of seeking fixed deposits of Rs 15 lakh and Rs 35 lakhs from the colleges intending to start new courses in traditional and professional discipline respectively. He said that the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) entrance examination was organised by the HNB Garhwal Central University on May 07 but the result of the examination is yet to be released.

More than 12500 students have appeared in the entrance examination for admissions in 4500 odd seats in 55 colleges.

The delay in release of result is sure to derail the academic session off track, he quipped.
