Whether it is an OHP thin transparent sheet or a visiting card, it can be used to create useful articles in day- to- day life. One does not need to spend a huge amount on home decor. Many such skills for creating useful items from the waste can be developed by one who has a skill in such an art. The girls studying in Government girls inter college (GGIC) Jwalapur have learnt the techniques on the concluding day of the three- day NSS camp on how to convert waste into useful materials and start their own home business as well.

In a special NSS camp held at Panchayat Ghar of Jamalpur Kalan,  an art and crafts course was held for the volunteers of the camp  during which they were taught the skill of starting their own business dealing with  decorative articles. Speaking to The Pioneer, a crafts trainer Garima Chadha from Roorkee said, “Through this class, I have tried to inculcate the spirit of self- reliance in the girls. They have been taught to make table mats, tea coasters and the like while using simple plastic transparent sheets. Besides, a simple old visiting card can be used as a medium to create articles which can decorate the walls. People spend lakhs on getting home walls textured but with simple colours and a card board, texture can be made at home.” Paper craft jewellery and old mirror glue work was also taught to the girls and this was enough for them to start their own business with, added Garima.

The programme officer of NSS, Meena Ahuja led   a rally of the girl students while holding placards with messages of water and environment conservation written on them. The rally crossed different areas of the village spreading the message. Each day of the camp was devoted to a different kind of social message, added Meena. The school principal Poonam Rana and Gram Pradhan, Susheel Raj Rana gave awards to the best students after the camp was over.
