According to information received, Divan Singh Rana lives in the Mallital area where his 12 year old daughter Sakshi was playing on the steps leading to the terrace of their home.
During the afternoon, a langur reportedly while rushing down the roof came into contact with the girl who lost her balance and fell down. She was taken to the BD Pandey hospital where she was administered primary treatment. She had sustained head injury and a broken jaw.
She was being taken by ambulance to higher centre in Haldwani but succumbed on the way after which her family members brought her body back home.
On Thursday, during the Measles Rubella (MR) campaign held in her school, the fifth class student had received the injection and had come home after the school ended early for the day. The family’s acquaintances state that Sakshi cared a lot for her two younger brothers. On the fateful day, she had just told her younger brother Gaurav to close the door lest a monkey barge in when a langur rushing by came in contact with her leading to her fatal fall.
Meanwhile, residents of the locality in Mallital have demanded that the forest department, district administration and the municipal council should take necessary measures to remove macaques and langurs from the area.
