Girl, boy struggling for life as 'relatives set house on fire'

Published on:

A boy and girl — two siblings — are struggling for their lives with 80 per cent burns in a hospital in Dehradun after the house they were staying in with their mother was engulfed in fire allegedly lighted by some relatives of the victims.

The ghastly incident occurred in Saliyar village under Gang Nehar police station of Roorkee on Wednesday night. Though police are investigating the case from the conspiracy angle they are yet to confirm how the fire broke out. One of the police officials probing the case said that the fire might have been lighted as part of a pre-meditated plan hatched by some relatives of the family to burn the family alive.

SP rural Manikant Mishra said, “Dilshana used to stay with her children- 22- year- old son Sannavar and 18- year- old daughter Ruksar- in Saliyar village after her husband died.  The lady was sleeping in her courtyard with her children on Wednesday night when the neighbours heard screams. However, by the time they were able to get into the house the siblings were found severely burnt. The fire tenders rushed and brought the blaze under control. The siblings were rushed to the    civil hospital in Roorkee with 80 percent burns from where they were referred to a higher medical centre in Dehradun.”

CO Roorkee Swapan Kishore said that the probe on,  samples of the burnt clothes and bedding materials had been sent to a forensic lab to ascertain the  exact reason of the fire.
