Gearing up for slum rally, BJP leaders visit Parade Ground

The organisational secretary of the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party Naresh Bansal accompanied by the  Rajpur MlA Khajan Das inspected Parade Ground on Saturday and revived the preparation for the proposed ‘ Thanks Giving’ rally slated on August 7 on the ordinance the State Government has brought about on the emotive slum issue. The party insiders admitted that the Dehradun district unit of the BJP is under pressure to ensure that it is a grand success.

The rally is being organised to express gratitude to the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and the BJP Government in the State for bringing in an ordinance on slums in wake of the scare triggered among the slum dwellers following the court order for  eviction.

Talking to the media persons on the matter,  Bansal said that MlAs, party leaders and workers are undertaking a door to door contact programme in the slums to make them aware of the good intention inherent in the State Government-initiated ordinance. “We are trying by all means to ensure that at least one person from every house in the slums turns up at the rally to lend support to the State Government’s initiative taken in their interests,” he added.

The Rajpur MlA Khajan Das said that many housing projects under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana would be completed by 2020 and the Government has sought a time of three years so as to ensure that a maximum number of  the slum dwellers is accommodated in the houses being built under the Centre’s ambitious project. He claimed that the rally would be a historic one in terms of  turnout. “And it would send a clear message as to the side they are with. We are pulling out all stops to ensure a mammoth gathering on the day,” he added

Other BJP leaders like Sunil Uniyal Gama and  Harish Dora were also present during the preparatory inspection of the ground.
