The administration of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) is now busy preparing the draft of an undertaking to be submitted to the Medical Council of India (MCI) in which it would assure that the shortcomings as pointed out by the apex body of medical education would be sorted out soon.

The MCI after recent inspection of the Medical college and its associated hospital had asked the college administration to submit an undertaking that all the lacunae pointed out by the team would be removed within next two months. This directive of the MCI is important as it paves way for the letter of Permission (lOP) to the college for admission to third batch of the MBBS students. last year also the MCI gave its permission after the college submitted this undertaking. The Principal of the GDMC Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta said that the undertaking would be submitted to the MCI on April 26. He said that the MCI has objected to the faculty deficiency which is 19 percent. He said that the college would do the necessary recruitment of the faculty. The college has an approved faculty strength of 100 against which 81 members are at present employed. As per the regulation the medical colleges should not have a faculty deficiency which is in excess of 10 percent.

The MCI has also objected to absence of the lecture theatre in the medical college hospital. The team has also expressed its annoyance on presence of CT machine which has become obsolete. The college has a dual slice machine while as per the MCI guidelines the medical college hospital should at least have 16 slice CT scan machine. The Principal Dr Gupta that a permission to install modern 64 slice CT scan machine has been given and the process to purchase the machine has started.

The MCI had granted the lOP to the GDMC on June 08, 2016 based on which admission to 150 students was given in the, 1st year MBBS course. later the renewal of lOP was granted to the college after which students in the II batch were granted admissions last year.

The new lOP would clear the way for the college to take admissions in its third batch of MBBS course from the merit of NEET in July— August this year.
