Following media reports and outrage generated in the society on the pathetic conditions at the female hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), the authorities have swung into action in an attempt to show that they are really concerned and resolved to take corrective steps to stem the rot which has apparently eaten its way deep into the functioning of the premier State-run facility of the State.
On Friday, the mission director, National Health Mission (NHM), Yugal Kishore Pant visited the female hospital of GDMC and gave necessary directions to the hospital authorities.
Pant also appointed a separate inquiry team headed by the health advisor and former director general (DG) of State Health Services, Dr Archana Srivastava to probe the case of the death of the mother and her new born baby in the hospital on Thursday.
He also visited the labour room of the hospital and inspected relevant documents. The principal of the GDMC, Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta said that the college has set up a three-member inquiry committee which would submit its report in 15 days. He, further, said that the issue of shortage of doctors and staff members was raised before Pant who directed the college administration to recruit new doctors soon.
