GCEH to soon get state-of-art modular OT

The authorities at the Gandhi Centenary Eye hospital (GCEH) here are planning to install a state-of-art modular Operation Theatre (OT) for eye in the hospital. The hospital which was inaugurated on October 2 amid much fanfare is without an OT at present.

The in charge of GCEH and consultant ophthalmologist, Dr RC Nagpal told The Pioneer that he is working in the direction of setting up a modular OT in the hospital so that best facilities are available to the eye patients.

He said that the OT would take at least two to three more weeks to get installed in the hospital. The modular OT is an ultramodern prefabricated structure which has chemically treated floor and walls. A laminar air flow is maintained in such OTs which is beneficial for both doctors and patients. Dr Nagpal said that maintenance of cleanliness is very easy in these types of OTs besides being comfortable for staff and hygienic in nature.  He disclosed that for the time being the hospital would use the OT of Coronation hospital for doing operations.

“From coming Monday our team would start doing operations in the OT of Coronation hospital,’’ Dr Nagapal said. Interestingly the entire eye department including eye specialist, Dr Shashi Vasan of the coronation hospital was shifted to the GCEH.

Similarly three eye specialists Dr Roopleen, Dr Sweta and Dr Akansha were shunted from Associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) to GCEH. The fallout of these decisions is that the associated hospital of GDMC is left with only one eye specialist (Dr Sushil Ojha) and one Senior Resident (SR).
