The annual cultural programme Goonj 2014 of the  Govind Ballabh Pant Engineering College (GBPEC), Ghurdori was inaugurated by Prof AK Swami, the Principal  by lighting the inaugural lamp.

The programme was organised in the auditorium of the institution on Thursday. Although the Vice- Chancellor HNB Garhwal Central University lG Singh was invited as the chief guest the students’ agitation forced the authority to cancel the VC’s programme.

Addressing the gathering at the inaugural Goonj 2014 function, Principal Swami said that this is the right platform to showcase the students’ talents. Our students represent our culture. They are also the custodians of the region’s culture.   The students thus should participate in such activities enthusiastically, added Swami.

He expressed pleasure for being shown their cultural talents.  In the competition, a few get success, but the importance lies in participation, he said.

“Failure is the pillars of Success,” he said, exhorting the students to go all out to showcase what they inherently have.  Swami appreciated the initiatives of the students to have a college magazine published for the first time to mark the college’s silver jubilee year. The institution was established in 1989 and the magazine will be published in February 2015, he said.

On the first day of the Goonj 14, seven houses of different faculties- Ecris, Ciricus, Genesis, Ram, Atheros, soft warriors and Appollo presented folk dances representing different States.

However, the Nanda Jat and Punjabi dance seemed to have stolen the heart of the gathering.
