The GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar is going to modernise its Patent Information and Management Centre (PIMC) with adequate infrastructure and expertise. This centre will be self-sustained in the long run and will be an independent centre catering to the scientists of all colleges, said vice-chancellor, GBPUAT, Pantnagar, Mangala Rai, while reviewing the activities of the existing centre in Pantnagar on Wednesday.
Rai further said that in the present intellectual protection regime (IPR), knowledge is a real wealth. What knowledge we have today is a fraction of what we do not have. So, there is endless scope of gaining knowledge and protecting it and also getting wealth from it. So it is very essential that every scientist is made IPR-literate. If the university scientists are IPR-literate the university as well as scientists can get regular income from their research results, he added.
Rai also asked the Deans to explore the possibility of having an optional course on IPR and also some topics in basic course curricula so that all students could have essential knowledge about IPR. Among others, deans of various colleges, directors and scientists of GBPUAT, Pantnagar were present at this review meeting. The officials concerned of the GBPUAT said the existing PIMC is presently managed by the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Pantnagar.
