The appeal of the All World Gayatri Pariwar (AWGP), Shantikunj, based in Haridwar, to the people to come forward to help the flood victims of Kerala has evoked a massive response, claimed the functionaries of the organisation. They further claimed that the relief materials collected are being distributed among the victims of the recent flood by a team led by the south zone in-charge Dr Brij Mohan Gaur and others like Rakesh Jaiswal, Uttam Gaiekwad and Umesh Sharma of Apada Prabandhan.
The Gayatri Pariwar set up its base relief camp at Ernakulum and over 10,000 volunteers are engaged in ferrying the relief materials to the flood-affected villages. “Separate teams have been formed to distribute the food packets, ingredients for food, utensils, medicines and the like. Volunteers from various parts of the country are physically contributing in the relief camp work,” said the south zone in-charge Brij Mohan Gaur.
Dr Pranav Pandya, the head of AWGP, had formulated a 7-point relief plan for the southern state which includes not just the immediate relief work but the long-term work of reconstruction of houses, schools and community halls. Besides, the organisation has decided to adopt two villages in each of the flood- affected districts of Kerala. He also directed those engaged in the relief work to form quick action teams for handling the natural disasters like the one which ravaged Kerala. In a touching response, the students of Gayatri Vidya Peeth, Shantikunj, donated the gifts they had received on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan to those left suffering by the calamity.
The students also donated small amounts from their pocket money and they are keen to provide books to their fellow students in the flood- hit areas of Kerala. Shantikunj is receiving generous donations at Samadhi Sthal from its inmates, said Pandya.
