As the Swachhata Survekshan has started in various cities a report from the think tank based in the city has stated that the people here are not as aware of the Swachhata mobile application, launched by the Government of India, as they should be.
Notably, the Swachhata mobile app had been initiated with the purpose that the citizens and the officials together make their city cleaner. However, the report by the group presents a sorry picture of things in the city. As per the report, people are hardly aware of the app in Dehradun.
As per the report presented by the think tank Gati Foundation about Swachhata Survekshan 2019, the survey which was started from January 4 would continue in the city till January 31.
The Swachhata Survekshan which was started in 2015 fixed 4,000 points under which a city was given points. However, later, the number of points was increased to 5,000. This year’s survey covers three old standards like improvement in services, direct inspection and public participation.
Apart from this, a new standard has been included which is a third-party certification that will be based on the star rating. It is learnt that 1250 points have been set for each of four parameters.
Founder of Gati Foundation Anoop Nautiyal said, “Public participation is an important element of this survey as it aims at making the citizens aware of hygiene at the national level and motivate them to contribute to the cleanliness system. Also, the new system of star rating is very good as it is meant to make the urban bodies more conscious for cleanliness. Besides, it is expected to motivate them to adopt a modern system rather than a traditional system of cleaning.”
Dehradun has not performed well in the previous report of the Swachhata Survekshan.
However, compared to 2017, the city made some improvement in its ranking in 2018. Dehradun got 316 rank in the clean survey held in 2017 whereas in 2018 the city got the 257 position. Roorkee’s performance in the survey was better. The city clinched 258 points in 2017 and 158 in 2018.
