Garhwal's ex-workers to support Jan Chetna Manch's stir

The Garhwal retired employees association has extended its support to the agitation slated to be launched by the Jan Chetna Manch on Monday seeking redressal of regional problems, including the shortage of doctors in the district hospital and district women’s hospital in Pauri.

The association has also raised its objection to the increase in house tax imposed by the Pauri municipality and lack of proper sanitation in town. The senior citizen members of the association also passed a resolution to the effect that they will launch a sanitation campaign in ward number two of the municipality area on October 17 as part of their role in the Swachh Bharat mission.

The association president Chandi Prasad Naithani and general secretary Matbar Singh Gusain said that three resolutions were passed in the meeting of the association on Sunday.

These include extending support to the agitation of Jan Chetna Manch against the shortage of doctors in the Pauri district hospital and to work for redressal of major problems being faced in Pauri town. The association members will join the protest rally of Jan Chetna Manch to make the agitation successful on Monday. Naithani said that the municipality has increased the house tax on buildings in the area under its purview manifolds.

He said that many locals had complained about receiving house tax notices seeking increased tax during a meeting organised by the municipality on September 14 but there was no positive response from the municipality chairman. The association has stressed that the house tax can be increased only by 5 to 10 per cent according the rules of the Municipal Board Act.

The increase in house tax will increase the financial burden on the locals, stressed the association members. Ram Dayal Singh Rana, Kamal Singh Gusain, Bhagwan Singh Tamta, Anusuya Prasad, Gopal Singh Negi, Sohan Singh Parmar, Madan lal, Manvar Singh Rawat and other association members were present in the meeting.
