Garhwal remains without electricity as power lines break

Published on:

The power supply at various places in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand was adversely affected on the second consecutive day on Saturday, as the line insulator and electricity wires at Muzaffarnagar-Puhana 400 KV line broke on Friday due to dense fog and polluting elements emitted from the industrial units located around Muzaffarnagar.

UPCl spokesperson Madhusudan said that power cut for five hours was reported from Kashipur, Mahwakhera, the non-continuous industry area in Bajpur while power cut for two hours was reported from the rural areas of Haridwar district- Kashipur, Mahawakhera and Bajpur. Power cut for 12 hours was reported from the non-continuous industry area in Haridwar while 4.30 hours from SIIDCUl, Haridwar.

UPCl Managing Director SS Yadav reached Muzaffarnagar and inspected the site where electricity wires broke. He gave necessary instructions to the officers for restoration of power supply in the State. Madhusudan further said that the demand for electricity in the State on Friday was 26.74 million units, whereas the availability of the electricity was 26.74 million units.

State received 6.28 MU from various other State-based hydro-power units. Some of the State run-hydro power projects have remained non-functional due to various reasons and this is what has led to the dip in the State’s power generation capacity.

UPCl would get 4.8 MU power from Haryana in the form of power banking on Sunday while 6 MU power will be purchased from Indian Energy Exchanges to bridge the deficit if it comes abouton Sunday, he added.
