In view of increasing incidents of celebratory firing, causing deaths and injuries, Garhwal Range SSPs have been directed to monitor such cases themselves.
IG Sanjay Kumar Gunjyal said this during a meeting held with police officers on Wednesday. He directed the Range police officers to inform the owners of hotels, wedding points, barat ghars and others to seek written assurances from the families of the brides and the grooms that there will be no celebratory firing. In case anyone dies or is injured during celebratory firing, license of barat ghars would be cancelled and stringent action would be taken against those responsible, said IG. The police officers should also create awareness preventing people to go for celebratory firing in their jurisdictional limits, he added.
