Taking a review meeting of district law and order situation at CCR Tower on Friday, Garhwal IG Sanjay Gunjyal directed the senior cops to be alert in view of the communal flare-up and tension at landhaura. He also asked all the police chowkis and thanas to be well equipped with necessary arms and riot-control equipment. He said that the riot-control vehicles would be adequately equipped too. He appreciated the timely action taken by the Haridwar police at landhaura after violence broke out on June 1. He released compensatory amounts against the damage the force had sustained during the violence.
Addressing the meeting, Gunjyal said that Section 144 imposed in the landhaura area might be lifted soon. “However, we would not brook any attempt to disturb peace and harmony by any of the organisations,” he said. He directed the police personnel to report even a very small incident and speeches made in a sensitive place. He asked them to do video recording of them too.
IG also directed the thana in-charges to keep detailed information, including contact numbers, of all bearers of licensed arms in their respective areas.
