Garhwal Range Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sanjay Gunjyal said he would make some changes in policing in the Range. He would lay emphasis on community policing, taking the local residents on board in order to strengthen the basic policing in the Range.
While interacting with media persons, DIG Gunjyal said he would also take necessary steps to ensure a giltch-free Ardh Kumbh Mela slated in 2016. Pertaining to crime cases, Haridwar and Dehradun districts are very sensitive. There has been a marginal increase in crime cases over the past few months. To achieve this, he would effect some changes in the functioning of police. Apart from strengthening basic policing, he would lay emphasis on community policing, taking the local residents on board.
To put check on crimes in the range, he would make some changes in policing by strengthening beat policing, increasing patrolling at important places and developing sources in the sensitive areas. “We will seek cooperation from the people by adopting community policing system. There will be direct communication of people with the police for ensuing effective policing in the range,” he added.
Police forces will be given two days’ training about how to deal with cases related to Human Trafficking, as such cases are on the rise in the range. With the help of non- government organisations, victims would be rehabilitated. Following the direction of Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Special Investigation Team comprising one inspector and 21 policemen will be formed at the Range level to deal with land dispute cases. Senior police officers will also be assigned to ensure maximum penalty is given to the accused as well as speedy redressal of the registered cases, he added.
“For successful completion of Ardh Kumbh, we will work on long- term project by generating parking, improving traffic system, repairing and building of roads, installing CCTV cameras at important places. Police would be trained too on how to deal with stampede cases as well as develop crowd management skills. Works related to Ardha Kumbh will be completed on priority basis” DIG added.
Gunjyal further said the Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi would inaugurate 7th All India Police Badminton Championship 2014 at Police line in Dehradun on Wednesday.
