Garbage in Tehri lake adds to woes of Dichli-Gamri residents

Published on:

So far, the water of the Tehri lake remained a problem for the people and to compound matters, the garbage accumulating in the lake is making life difficult for the people of Dichli-Gamri.

The garbage accumulating in the lake has made the movement of the villagers extremely difficult.  Possibility of accidents has also risen with things remaining un-addressed. The villagers kept on urging the THDC and local administration officials to clean the lake, but to no avail.  The situation was compounded since the Devisaud bridge in Chinyalisaud got submerged by the water of the lake. Following this, 42 villages in the Dichli-Gamri area region remained cut-off from the main area. Boats were provided to help them move to and fro.

The people reached their villages from  hinyalisaud and vice versa with help of these boats. But the garbage being brought down from upper side of the lake is being gathered near the water area bordering Chinyalisaud, due to which the danger of accidents is looming large. Recently, due to piece of a log getting into the way of the boat, about 30 people remained  stuck for over half an hour in the boat till the log was removed to clear the path. In addition, the stench from the garbage is also threatening to become a health hazard for the people there.
