Gandhi Road residents, activists oppose bid to fell trees

Published on:

Members of Citizens For Green Doon along with residents of Gandhi Road, on Sunday morning, assembled at Gandhi Road to show support for the 11 green trees, earmarked for felling by the District Administration.

It should be noted that the MDDA Complex, under construction at Dispensary Road, has an entrance road from Gandhi Road. The road at present has a width of 26 feet, which the administration wants to widen to 30 feet by chopping 11 green trees. CFGD had last week met the DM to explain to him that for a one way entrance, 26 feet is wide enough. On Friday, residents also met the DM with a letter from 90-year-old, Uttarakhand Ratan awardee Hakim Akbar Farooq who had planted the trees in 1980s and in the letter, had stated that trees are necessary for well being and would request the DM to save them from being unnecessarily felled.
