Uttarakhand costumes showcased at doll exhibition

During an exhibition organised at the International Academy of Fashion Technology here on Tuesday, the students  have showcased dolls dressed in the traditional state costumes to mark Gandhi Jayanti. The institute is a unit of the Fashion Design Council of Uttarakhand. Director of the institute Suman Lata Pal said that the aim of the event is to enlighten and empower the women through the presentation of the ethnic attire of the State.

Deepa, a student who has designed Jaunsar dress, said, “I was keen to use my creativity for some purpose.

It took me a few months to design the traditional dress. Main attraction is the scarf and the flair of ghaghara, the long skirt. My art has been appreciated.”

Founder of the non-profit organisation Vijay Singh Pal said, “These dresses have won appreciation from the people across the world. We would put them for online sale soon.  It is a step towards empowering the local talented students.”
