Three-year-old Unic lama, a native of Kathmandu was suffering from unbearable pain in the abdomen due to gall bladder stones. She was treated here in Max hospital. During examination, the doctor found that Unic had already undergone surgery for Urinary relux (surgery done for Ureteric reimplant) one year ago. Speaking about the treatment of Gall Bladder stones in children and the case of Baby Unic, Dr. Nitin J. Peters, Consultant Neonatal and Paediatric Surgeon shares, “A gall bladder stone is a rare disease in children but still common in the sub-himalayan belt. Sometimes these stones formation can be because of haematological disorders which were ruled out in this case. Various dietary and lifestyle diseases also cause more and more of such problems. After a thorough review of the patient’s case, we guided the parents about the problems and the availability
of treatment of such problems in Max Super Speciality Hospital Dehradun. Unic underwent a ‘key hole’ laparoscopic Cholecyslectomy i.e. removal of gall bladder through key hole. We at Max Super Speciality Hospital Dehradun are well equipped to perform wide range of paediatric & neonatal surgeries including laparoscopic & Minimal Access surgeries in children between the age group of one day to seventeen years.”
Dr. Rohit Srivastava, Associate Consultant and Head of the Department - Paediatrics explains, “Baby Unic had been suffering from this problem for almost 2 years and his condition was not improving even a bit. We guided and explained the family about key hole surgery which could treat this medical condition of their child. After undergoing the keyhole surgery Unic was discharged on the 2nd day and was absolutely pain free and happy. We were able to manage her without open surgery which would have required long post operative / hospital stay.”
