The agitation for Gairsain to be declared as permanent capital of Uttarakhand gained further momentum on Thursday.
A complete bandh was observed in Gairsain town on the day. All the shops and business establishment remained closed on the call given by the leaders of the agitation.
Providing a major fillip to the movement the traders association and Gairsain taxi union also extended their support to the Gairsain movement.
The agitating activists blocked the busy Karnprayag- Ranikhet highway which is the connecting link between Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of the state.
The road block created problems for the people and many officials heading for the state assembly also remained stuck in the jam.
One of the Gairsain movement activists, Pravin Singh said that the agitation would continue till the State Government concedes the demand to declare Gairsain as the permanent capital of Uttarakhand.
