Recurring power cuts have added to the woes of the people here as it makes more diffcult for them to cope up with the rising mercury. The power cuts both scheduled and unscheduled are also having an effect on the drinking water supplies. People in many areas of city complained about 10-12 hours of power cuts. The upliftment work of towers of 132 KV Rishikesh- Majra line near Doiwala is forcing the power department to undertake cuts. The work was expected to be completed on May 25 but departmental delay in the work is forcing the people to suffer.
It appears that the power department finally awoke to the miseries of people on Tuesday as the Managing Director (MD) of Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl), and Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand limited (PTCUl), SS Yadav convened a meeting of officials of both companies and discussed the situation.
The MD ordered the officials that the pending work on uplifting the line should be completed at all means by Tuesday night. Yadav also asked the executive engineers and sub divisional officers to undertake extensive tours of the sub stations under their jurisdiction and keep an eye on the voltage and power load during peak hours. Yadav then visited the site where the towers are being uplifted in Doiwala area.
The spokesperson of UPCl, Madhusudan claimed that power supply in Hemkund Sahib shrine was restored before the stipulated time by the UPCl. He informed that UPCl received 17.15 Million Units (MU) of power from central pool on Tuesday.
