Frequent load shedding adds to Haldwani's woes

Published on:

Disruption in electricity supply due to faults at power sub-stations coupled with frequent tripping has become a routine affair in the region.

While citizens faced a tough time coping with heat due to power cuts here for more than eight hours from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday caused by replacement of transformer at the Kamuluwaganja power sub-station on Saturday, frequent tripping hit normal life here on Sunday as well.

The matter of concern is that on account of poor power supply and voltage problems, other basic services like drinking water also remained disrupted in many parts of Haldwani. People could not store drinking water in different parts of Haldwani including Kushumkhera, Gasgodam Raod to name a few areas for the past two days.

Amid unscheduled load shedding at regular intervals, local faults are the major reasons behind such major power breakdowns here.

The hilly and remote areas of the State are not less affected due to poor supply of power caused by unscheduled load shedding and local faults.

Meanwhile, according to the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl), with availability of power in Uttarakhand remaining around 37.93 million unit (mu) per day i.e. about 17.16 mu per day from domestic sources, about 18.15  mu per day from Central pool and rest about 2.62 mu per day from other sources, the demand for power is presently hovering around 39.48 mu per day in the State, showing a shortfall of only about  1.55 mu between demand and availability of the power in the mountain State.

In the meanwhile, the  industries have also expressed serious concern over poor supply of electricity to the industrial units in the State. long hours of power cuts  i.e. five to six  hours a day, have had an adverse impact on the industrial output, regretted the industrialists, alleging despite urging the State Government to provide uninterrupted power supply to the industries, much has not been done to improve power situation.
