Around 150 youths from Dehradun had approached the fake institute — Star Global — to get jobs in Australia, Dubai and Singapore.
The fraudsters running the racket had made sure that none of the victims got an inkling of knowledge that they were being duped. Youths were asked to clear the interviews where they were asked simple questions related to family backgrounds and their education.
The institute officials then declared them as selected and asked them to pay the amount for making visa for the nations they wished to get jobs in. Investigation revealed that the fraudsters had taken a few lakhs from each of the youths, resulting in their having amassed around Rs three crore.
The institute officials used to ask the candidates to reach Delhi a day before their scheduled departure for the foreign countries, saying that rooms in hotels had been booked in advance for them.
When the youths reached Delhi they found mobile phones of the institute officials switched off. They used to take rooms in hotels in Delhi at their own expenses. It was then the realisation dawned on them that they had been duped.
