The Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand (SDSU) University is eliciting criticism for having failed to present degrees and mark-sheets to the students of its first batch. Even though a decision was taken at the State administration level, thousands of students of the first batch have not been provided these important documents so far.
It is pertinent to mention here that about 8,000 students of the 2011-12 batch of SDSU University have been waiting for their degrees and mark-sheets for four years now. The SDSU University and Garhwal Central University had reached an agreement at the administration-level earlier this year on July 4 regarding the degrees of these students. It had been decided at that time that with the assistance of the Garhwal Central University, the SDSU University would award the degrees to the students of the first batch in two months. However, more than five months later the university administration has not been able to award degrees to the students.
Without their academic degrees, the students are experiencing much frustration as they are unable to appear in various competitive examinations.
Observers pointed out that students of the first batch are suffering due to such an inexcusable delay at a time when officials have been appointed to all the major positions in the SDSU University.
The students affected by this delay complained that the problems being faced by them were not even taken seriously by the University administration, thanks to their inefficient and lethargic work culture.
Dinesh Singh and Rakesh Kothari, students of the first batch informed this correspondent that they had been visiting the University repeatedly for four years to get their degrees. They had planned to appear in various competitive examinations after passing out from the university but were unable to even fill the application forms for such exams as they did not have the degrees, they added.
Meanwhile, on being asked about the delay in awarding of degrees, the SDSU University Registrar Dr Surendra Singh Rawat said that degrees and mark-sheets would be provided to students of the first batch by January next year.
