Four sportspersons from the Ice Skating Association of Uttarakhand succeeded in achieving a position in the national-level Indraprasth Cup figure skating competition held recently in Gurugram.

According to information provided by the ISAU, after national-level figure skating and speed skating training from October 3 to 8, the national-level Indraprastha Cup was organised on October 9 in Gurugram, Haryana. The association further informed that the four participants sent by the ISAU to the national level competition were successful in achieving victory in their respective events. Among the victorious skaters from Uttarakhand, Adarsh Rawat secured third position, Aksh Sayal and Samriddhi Tiwari achieved second position while their fourth team member Yuvraj Gulati secured fourth position.

The head of the Ice Skating Association of Uttarakhand, Shiv Painyuli, greeted the skaters on their achievements while also informed that this time, the team sent by the ISAU had comprised both of female and male figure skaters.

He further informed that the national level ice skating training and competition programme was organised under the aegis of the Ice Skating Association of India. Skaters from different parts of the nation were among those participating in the training and competition which makes the results achieved by skaters from Uttarakhand all the more commendable.

Welcoming the four member team of ice skaters after their position-winning performance, Painyuli expressed his hope for a better scenario in the future in Uttarakhand.

Despite having the biggest in Asia and Olympic size ice skating rink in the State, the skaters of Uttarakhand were not being provided access to it. Even then they managed to give commendable performances and won laurels for the State. Had the ice skating rink in question being made accessible to the budding skaters of the state, there would have been more than four skaters from the state who would have brought laurels to the state at such a national level competition, he opined. ICAU publicity secretary Suresh Bhatt said that the association hopes that the State Government will take cognizance of this issue and take the needful action to optimize sporting talent in the State.
