At least four persons died and over two dozen were injured when a roadways bus they were travelling in fell off the road near Kasar Bend in Almora’s Dhaulchhina area on Monday morning.
The authorities are unsure of the exact number of fatalities caused by landslides due to heavy rain, said the Almora district police. It seems the death toll could go up, added the police. The bus with about 40 passengers was on its way from Delhi to Gangolihat when it met with the accident at Kasar Bend around 11.30 AM. But it is yet to be cleared how many persons died and how many passengers sustained injuries in this mishap as the rescue operations were on till the time of this report being filed, added district administration officials.
Incessant rain has badly affected the rescue operation. The injured are being taken to Almora hospital. But it is reported that many of the injured passengers are still trapped inside the ill-fated bus that fell over 50 metres down from the main road. Traffic jam on different roads linking the main city Almora is also hampering the rescue operations.
