Three men and one woman were injured when the car they were travelling in fell off the mountainside in Dehradun on Monday morning. According to the information provided by the police the accident happened at around 6:30 in the morning and local police and a team from Sahastradhara of State Disaster Response Force went to rescue them.
This accident has again elicited focus on the risk posed by people driving under intoxication as the police suspect that the driver in this case was driving under the influence of some intoxicant. Dehradun Superintendent of Police (city) Shweta Choubey said, “The city control unit received the information about a car accident near Kimadi village at about 6:44 in the morning.
The victims were referred directly to Government Doon Medical College Hospital after initial first-aid with the help of 108 ambulance.
The driver of the car might have been under the influence of alcohol. The cause of accident is still not certain, we are investigating on it.”
One of victims said, “We work in a call centre and planned to go Kimadi in the morning. I was sleeping at the time. The person who was driving was a little drunk but suddenly he lost control and the car fell off the road.”
The injured victims have been identified as Prateek Singh Bora (24), Ayushi Mandola (22), Shubham Paswan (26) and driver Prateesh (27).
It is pertinent to mention here that in the year 2018, 39 cases of road accidents were reported in which the primary cause was for the driver to be under the influence of liquor and other narcotic substances. These 39 road accident cases resulted in the death of 25 people and 64 were reportedly injured. It is also important to mention here that the road on which this accident happened is scarcely checked by the district police, which is why it has become a perfect spot for people especially youngsters to consume alcohol or other intoxicants and driver or roam freely here.
