Hearing on a health-related public interest litigation filed by Deepak Ruvali, the High Court of Uttarakhand has directed that a high-level committee be formed for ascertaining the scope for converting the tuberculosis sanatorium at Bhawali into a multi speciality hospital. The report of this high level committee will be submitted to the court in a period of three weeks, the court directed.

The court has included the additional secretary of health, finance secretary and the town planner in the said committee. The committee has been directed to present its report in the court.

It is pertinent to mention here that there is no prominent hospital in the town of Nainital and its neighbouring area. The people are dependent for their medical treatment requirements on the BD Pandey hospital in Nainital but many complain that this hospital does not have high level of medical treatment facilities. Hearing on a health-related public interest litigation, the high court division bench comprising justice Sudhanshu Dhuliya and justice UC Dhyani took serious cognisance of the issue and directing formation of a committee, ordered it to submit its report on the possibility of converting the sanatorium at Bhawali into a multi-speciality hospital. The additional secretary of health, Dr Pankaj Pandey, director general of health Dr DS Rawat and other officials were also present in the court during the hearing of the case.
