A forest guard posted in Dhaulkhand range of Rajaji tiger reserve was allegedly abducted and beaten up by members of the timber mafia on Sunday morning when he came to Rasoolpur for some work. A case has been lodged against four unidentified people who abducted him. Search for the accused is on, said the police. The police managed to rescue the forest guard though no one has been arrested so far.

The timber mafia abducted a forest guard Nand Kishore from forest post in Rasoolpur village under the jurisdiction of Buggawala police station in Dhaulkhand range of RTR. “Nand Kishore had come to Rasoolpur for some official work when four people came from Bandarjoot village armed with weapons. They took him to the village where they beat him. We could rescue him after great tussle,” said station officer Govind Kumar of Buggawala police station.

It is learnt that a forest poacher Kala was arrested a month ago and just two days ago he was released on bail. The accused lifted Nand Kishore from the forest post and took him to Bandarjoot village where more villagers joined them. After heavy police force was deployed, the forest guard was released by the villagers and the criminal elements. The villagers alleged that the forest guard was drunk and had misbehaved. The forest guard lodged an FIR against the four persons.
