Following NBW, former PCC chief to reach police station

The former president of Pradesh Congress Committee, Kishore Upadhyay is slated to present himself in a local police station on Saturday following a non-bailable warrant issued against him. His supporters have alleged that the State Government is responsible for this as Upadhyay was planning to hold a Press conference to talk on chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s role in the Dhaincha seed scam.

Talking to The Pioneer, Upadhyay said, “Since the government sent the police to my home on Thursday with the non-bailable warrant, I will be going to the Dalanwala police station on Saturday and present myself to the police. I find this development odd since the court had earlier granted me bail in the case. The warrant could also have been recalled but the government thought otherwise. To avoid becoming an absconder I will present myself at the police station and see what happens,” he said. Regarding the allegations leveled by some of his supporters about the purported reason for the NBW, the former PCC president said that he could not comment on what the others are saying.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier on April 24, the court of chief judicial magistrate in Dehradun had granted bail to Upadhyay, cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat and others in connection with the agitation they had staged in Dehradun during 2009 when the Congress was in opposition. Following the NBW local Congress leader Sanjay Bhatt alleged that the State Government sent the police with the NBW because the former PCC chief was planning to soon hold a Press conference to purportedly expose the role of chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in the Dhaincha seeds scam.
