A general physician Dr Amit Rautela has been appointed at the district hospital Pauri after the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat intervened to convince the medical health and family welfare department of the need to appoint a general physician at the hospital. On Wednesday, the department appointed Dr Amit Rautela for the hospital.
Interestingly, Dr Rautela who was posted at Base Hospital in Haldwani was eager to be shifted to Pauri due to some personal reasons. However, the department turned down his request while reasoning that his transfer would affect functioning of the Base Hospital.
Apart from being an important district, the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand is headquartered in Pauri district. A large number of patients from the far-flung areas of the district and other areas throng the district hospital Pauri daily. The patients of the hospital had been facing problem due to non-availability of the general physician. Things were such that the people launched stir to get a physician at the district hospital. When the issue came up to the CM, he directed the department to ensure that Dr Rautela who was willing to serve in a remote place like Pauri was posted there. On CM’s orders, the department shifted Dr Rautela from Haldwani to Pauri.
When contacted, MLA of Pauri sounded happy over the appointment of the physician in the district hospital. “When I came to learn about Dr Rautela’s eagerness to work in Pauri, I requested the CM to have him transferred here. I am happy that my request has been accepted and Pauri has finally got its long elusive physician,’’ he said.
