Focus shifts to parties' 'star campaigners'

It is another matter who the ‘unpredictable’ voters will vote for on the given day of voting. But craze among the voters for listening to star election campaigners that rival political parties filed to woo them during the elections has always been high.

With the main political parties including the Congress and BJP declaring their candidates for all five parliamentary constituencies of Uttarakhand, now the focus of political observers and people at large here seems to have shifted to the star election campaigners of different political parties.

Interestingly, the BJP which was ahead in naming its candidates for all lok Sabha seats of the rival Congress party in the hill State, also claimed to have finalised a list of its star campaigners who will address public rallies in different parts of the state in the coming days.

Among those BJP star campaigners who are going to address public rallies in the hill State include BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, BJP’s national president Rajnath Singh and senior leaders lK Advani, Murli Manor Joshi, Sushama Swaraj, Shahnawaz Hussain, Hema Malini, Navjot Singh Sidhu, to name a few along with senior State party leaders, said senior BJP leader and party’s State co-media convener Suresh Tiwari. As the BJP insiders here maintain, all the party candidates who have been fielded for all five lok Sabha seats of Uttarakahnd are also heavy weight. They are star election campaigner for the party.  The fact is that party’s candidate from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary constituency Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, has already been campaigning for the party candidates in different parts including Delhi, UP and Uttarakhand as a star poll campaigner. After completing his campaign assignments in Delhi and UP, Koshiyari campaigned for party candidate in Almora and Pithoragarh parliamentary constituency on Thursday, they added.

When asked how was he managing election assignments in so many constituencies, Koshiyari maintained that it was party’s direction. So he had been campaigning for the party candidates in other constituencies also as their other leaders were doing, he added.

The Congress party has just managed to finalise names for the Uttarakhand lok Sabha seats. But it, as the party leaders here said, will also deploy its star campaigners in Uttarakhand in the times to come to woo the voters. Interestingly, despite his busy works schedule as head of the Government, Chief Minister Harish Rawat has already started conducting whirlwind tours of every parts of the hill state to reach out to the voters.
