Food materials will be sent to the disaster affected districts after receiving demands from the district magistrate concerned. There is no demand for items like biscuits and bottled water from the affected districts but such items are still reaching Dehradun in bulk from different parts of the country. Dehradun receives demand for items like solar lights, blankets, tent, salt, spices and sugar from the affected areas.
Dehradun district magistrate R Meenakshi Sundaram appealed the industrialists and other interested persons to send these items so that these can be provided to the affected persons. He said this while interacting with media persons on Friday a day after assuming the additional charge of DM.
Sundaram said that he inspected Maharana Pratap Sports College where relief materials are received from different States and transported to the affected districts. He observed that huge quantities of perishable items are stored in the college due to limited demand for these from affected areas. These items could spoil soon if not consumed soon. Following this, he has directed the district officials to send perishable times to Anganwadi Centres and Government schools so that these items could be used. In addition to this, medicines not used in the affected areas will be sent to the health department and local community health centres. According to him, at present around 24900 solar lights have been transported to the affected areas after demands made by the district magistrate concerned. Demand for around 8000 solar lights has been received from affected areas.
These will be used to make floor mats with the help of NGOs. With help of state government, the district administration would soon clear the dues with petrol pumps. Sub divisional magistrates and Tehsildars have been directed to verify status of missing persons from Dehradun so that monetary relief could be provided to the families.
Families living in slums are playing a significant role in the city’s economy. Being the vice chairman of Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority and holding the additional charge of DM, he is not going to take action against them but will wait for their rehabilitation under different Central and State Government schemes.
