The power generation in various State-based hydro -power projects has been recorded at five to 10 per cent more than last year’s power generation. The State received continuous rainfall but for a shorter period in comparison to last year. The flow of silt in the rivers was minimal resulting in increase in power generation this year. The annual power generation in the State is around 3,800 to 4, 000 Million Unit (MU). The Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) has a power sharing agreement for around 810 MU with Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana and Meghalaya, said UPCl spokesman Madhusudan.
He said that UPCl generated five to ten per cent more power this year as compared to to last year, resulting in power sharing agreement with some states.
The UPCl has entered into power sharing agreements with its counterparts in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Meghalaya to tide over the power crisis in the wake of high demand during summers in the State. These States will have to return the power in April, May and June when the state needs power due to decreased power generation here during this period.
Regarding another development, the UPCl spokesman said that in order to improve the power supply situation in the State capital, work on 11 KV feeders will be done under RAPDRP-B scheme. Several areas like Faltu line, Subhash Road, New Road, MKP Road, Gurudwara Road, Madrasi Colony, Race Course and other areas in the state capital would face power cut situation between 10 am and 4 pm from September 22 to September 26.
Due to work on the 11 KV Bindal feeder, areas including Indira Colony, Tilak Road, Khurbura, Devki Complex, Chakrata Road, Vijay Colony, Shakti Colony, Hathibadkala Gaon, Pathariyapeer, New Cantt Road, Doon School and Syyed Mohallah would face power cut situation on September 22 between 1 pm and 6 pm.
