Irked by obstinate attitude of the some of the faculty members who were not ready to shift base to the new OPD building, the medical superintendent (MS) of the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital has directed the doctors of five departments to shift entirely to the new building. From Friday the OPDs of paediatrics, Skin and venereal diseases, Psychiatrics, chest and TB and ENT would get operational from the new building.

The hospital administration had earlier planned that the doctors of five departments would see patients in the new building on the rotational basis. However doctors of these department started digging their heals when it came to sit in the new OPD building. It is learnt that the doctors didn’t wanted to sit in the new building as patient inflow there is less. When the issue came to the hospital administration it decided that instead of rotational system the entire set up of five OPDs would get shifted to new building. The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the GDMC Hospital, Dr K K Tamta said that from Friday, five OPDs would get totally shifted to new building. He said that for the benefit of patients, the registration counters in the new building would also start functioning from Friday.

Meanwhile in view of the increased movement of patients between new OPD building and the old building after opening of new building, the hospital authorities have suggested that the Government should either construct an over bridge across the busy Cross road which separates the two buildings or construct a sub way for the benefit of the patients.

The new building of OPD building GDMC hospital was inaugurated by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday. The objective of the construction of the new building is to help in removing pressure on the old campus of the biggest government hospital of the state.

The new OPD building would have two wings out of which work on first wing is completed while work in other one would also be completed soon. In the first phase the hospital plans to shift registration counter, administration office and some OPDs in the new building. In the second phase, blood bank, remaining OPDs and central lab would be shifted.
