Governor of Punjab and Haryana Kaptan Singh Solanki participated in the five-day-long Kundiya Janki Mata Mahayagya organised by the former Sankracharya and founder of Bharat Mata Trust Swami Satmitranand Giri Maharaj. It concluded here on Wednesday with the Governor putting the final aahuti (input) in the yagya.
The Governor said the life of Sita epitomises sacrifice undertaken one after another. “We can and should learn things from our culture and tradition,” he said, adding that he is happy with the saints participating and conducting such programmes across the country to inculcate positive approach in the people, particularly, the women. He further said he feels upset over news of rape, sexual exploitation, dowry and domestic violence against the women in society.
A booklet of ‘Beti Bachao – Desh Jagao’ compiled by Haryana Women’s Welfare Association was also released on the occasion.
Expressing concern over the girls not being accepted with the love they deserve in the society, he said the ill-treatment meted out to the girls is a matter of shame, given the fact that India represents one of the oldest civilisations of the world. Among the prominent saints present were Swami Awdeshanand of Juna Akhadaa and Swami Akhileshwaranand Giri of Niranjani Akhadaa.
