Firing range building in utter state of neglect

Published on:

Floor is gathering dust; windows have been left open, and a structure similar to machine is dumped inside. This is the scene at the newly constructed building of firing range in the Reserve Police line here. Dusty floor clearly indicates that broomstick has not been used for the past few months. It seems that Police department has forgotten to make arrangements for maintenance of the building.

The structure, which came up with an estimated cost of around Rs 1.22 crore, cries for attention of the officials. A police personal has been deployed to guard the building. The huge hall of the building, where equipments to develop the firing range to be fitted, is also gathering dust. It has a thick dust layer that may affect it.

A huge fund has been spent on construction of the building. But no arrangements for its maintenance have been put in place. It has been left into oblivion. The issue has failed to draw attention of the senior officials. A lock has been put on its main gate of the hall that is opened once in a blue moon.

A source said, “Gathering of dust on the floor for long affects its durability. Floor requires regular sweeping. Ironically, the floor of the building is not lucky enough to ‘see’ the broom even once in a month, let alone its meeting with the broom everyday.”

If sources are to be believed, fate smiles on the floor only when a senior police officer carries out inspection there. “Those responsible for carrying out cleanliness swings into action to clean the floor as soon as they get to know about the inspection by senior officials,” an official, pleading anonymity, said.

When contacted, Deputy Inspector General of Police Amit Sinha, who took keen interest in constructing the building, said that he would look into the matter. He said that proper maintenance of the building, wherein sophisticated equipments to be fixed for developing the firing range, would be ensured.

Sinha further added that the building was ready and firing range would start functioning within next two months.
