The residence of the EME corps officers’ mess in Joshimath was engulfed by fire early on Thursday morning. Though the fire destroyed most of the objects kept in the building it did not result in injury to any person.
The fire erupted in the officers’ mess near the Auli Road at about 7 AM on Thursday. On receiving information about the fire, three fire engines were sent to the site. The fire brigade personnel toiled for about half an hour to douse out the fire. Though the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, prima facie the fire appears to have been caused by a short circuit.
